Emirates Highlights Family-Focused Economy Travel Experience

As the new year begins, Emirates reports its busiest month ever for family travel bookings, reflecting strong demand from families planning vacations ahead. In 2025, 84% of Emirates’ bookings were in Economy Class, with group and family travelers comprising 64% of all Economy passengers.

January remains a crucial planning period for families, especially for annual holidays. Data from Emirates shows that over 65% of group bookings were made at least three months before departure, and more than 65% of family bookings were completed at least two months prior to travel. Popular destinations for group travel included Dubai, Jeddah, Medina, Istanbul, and Rome. Families most often booked trips to Dubai, Bangkok, Jeddah, Malé, and Mauritius.

In 2026, designated as the ‘Year of the Family’ in the UAE, Emirates notes that booking patterns closely follow school holiday calendars. Travel during spring and summer breaks is usually booked in January, with additional bookings expected later in the year for other holiday periods.

Economy travel designed for families

Economy Class accounts for the majority of Emirates’ passenger base across its long-haul network spanning Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Australasia. The airline operates a widebody fleet of Airbus A380s, A350s and Boeing 777s, offering features such as wider cabins and aisles, larger overhead storage and cabin environments designed for long-distance travel.

Economy Class seating includes adjustable headrests, consistent seat pitch, personal entertainment screens for each passenger and lighting designed to support rest on longer journeys. On the Airbus A350, Economy Class features a 3-3-3 configuration, individual 13.3-inch screens, in-seat charging and increased overhead storage.

Many aircraft have undergone interior upgrades as part of a multi-year retrofit programme, introducing refreshed seating and updated cabin design elements across the fleet.

Practical benefits for families

Families travelling with Emirates benefit from priority boarding at international airports, allowing extra time for children to settle in. The airline follows a seating policy to keep families together and offers bassinet positions for infants under two years old and under 11kg. Approved car seats may also be used onboard.

From an operational perspective, Emirates’ hub-and-spoke model enables many non-stop long-haul services, reducing the need for multiple connections. At its Dubai hub, the airline handles close to three million bags each month, with baggage delivery performance consistently recorded at 99.9% for bags arriving on time at the correct destination.

Cabin crew and onboard service

Emirates’ cabin crew represent more than 140 nationalities and collectively speak over 70 languages. Training focuses on safety, consistency and service delivery across diverse passenger profiles, including families, unaccompanied minors and travellers requiring assistance.

Structured service flows are designed to manage full cabins efficiently, with attention to meal service timing, cabin environment and passenger comfort. Cabin crew also support family travel with simple gestures, such as capturing onboard moments for families as keepsakes.

Dining and inflight entertainment

All Economy Class passengers receive complimentary meals and beverages on every route. Menus reflect regional cuisines and include options for special dietary requirements. Children’s meals are available on most routes and are served on themed trays. Organic baby food, milk formula, and baby bottles are provided for infants as needed.

Emirates’ inflight entertainment system, ice, offers more than 6,500 channels, including movies, television, music, podcasts, games and live news. Content for children includes programming from Disney+, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, with child-sized headphones provided. Older children and teens can access music libraries, games and two-player gaming options.

The airline is also introducing Starlink connectivity across its fleet, enabling Economy Class passengers to access high-speed internet services onboard.

Comfort kits and family support

On long-haul flights, Economy Class passengers receive complimentary amenity kits, while children and infants receive age-specific kits with comfort items and activities. Aircraft washrooms are equipped with baby changing tables, and pillows and blankets are available to support rest during flights.

At Dubai International Airport, Emirates provides complimentary strollers for young children and operates an Unaccompanied Minors service for children aged 5 to 11, supported by dedicated ground staff, cabin crew and a designated lounge.

Loyalty benefits

Families travelling in Economy Class can earn rewards through Emirates Skywards, which offers multiple membership tiers and redemption options, including flights, upgrades and partner rewards. Children aged 2 to 17 can join Skywards Skysurfers, earn Miles on Emirates and flydubai flights, and pool them in a family account.

Together, these elements reflect Emirates’ continued focus on providing a structured, family-oriented Economy Class experience across its global network.
