Anantara to Open Kafue River Tented Camp in Zambia in April 2026

Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas has announced the launch of the Anantara Kafue River Tented Camp, set to open in April 2026. This will mark the brand’s first safari-tented property. Situated high above the banks of Zambia’s Kafue River, the camp offers guests a close connection to nature and direct access to Kafue National Park, the largest and oldest wildlife reserve in the country.

A Design That Blends with Nature

Positioned 3.5 metres above the ground on timber platforms, the camp has been designed to minimize its environmental footprint while allowing wildlife to move freely beneath. Its elevated structure preserves the natural water flow and surrounding habitat, integrating seamlessly into the landscape of wetlands, woodlands, and savannas that define the Kafue ecosystem.

The property’s design, created by South Africa’s MRS Studio, combines natural textures and locally sourced materials to reflect the tones and patterns of the surrounding environment. The interiors blend contemporary comfort with Zambian cultural elements, creating spaces that are both inviting and grounded in place.

Eco-Chic Accommodation Above the River

Anantara Kafue River Tented Camp will feature ten villas and three Horizon Terrace Suites, connected by lantern-lit walkways overlooking the river and wilderness. Each accommodation is designed for open-air living, with sliding walls, outdoor showers, and expansive decks that blur the boundaries between indoors and outdoors.

The Horizon Terrace Suites, elevated 14 metres above the ground, offer panoramic views and open-air daybeds for relaxation. The Pool Villas provide private plunge pools and butler service, while the Presidential Villa spans 400 square metres and can be extended into a two-bedroom residence with its own boat dock and river-facing deck.

Dining Rooted in Local Flavours

Culinary experiences at the camp will highlight the natural ingredients of Zambia’s riverbanks and plains. The signature restaurant, nestled beneath the trees, will serve a menu of regionally inspired dishes made with fresh, seasonal produce. Guests can enjoy a riverside bar, a casual lounge for tea or cigars, and a fireside gathering area reminiscent of a traditional African boma.

For private moments, Anantara’s Designer Dining concept will offer custom bush dinners under the stars, combining authentic flavours with a scenic wilderness backdrop.

Wellness Immersion Surrounded by Wilderness

Wellness will be a core part of the Anantara Kafue experience. The Anantara Spa will offer private treatments designed to align with the rhythm of nature, enhanced by the tranquil sounds of the nearby river. Select villas will feature personal wellness spaces for in-room treatments and yoga sessions.

Guests can also enjoy a full-size swimming pool, guided yoga and meditation sessions, and a fully equipped fitness centre. With minimal light pollution, the camp will offer exceptional stargazing opportunities, allowing guests to experience the vast African night sky in peaceful solitude.

Safari Experiences Tailored to Every Guest

Anantara Kafue River Tented Camp will serve as a base for exploring Kafue National Park, home to a diverse range of wildlife, including elephants, lions, antelope, and more than 500 bird species.

Guests can embark on guided game drives, river safaris, canoe trips, and fishing excursions led by expert trackers. The camp’s private boats will navigate the river’s quieter stretches, offering opportunities to observe crocodiles, hippos, and aquatic birds up close. Each experience will be personalized according to guest interests and seasonal wildlife activity.
