Air India has received its first retrofitted Boeing 787-8 aircraft (registered VT-ANT), marking the start of its cabin upgrade programme for a total of 26 aircraft of this type.
The retrofit includes a complete cabin refurbishment to update the onboard product across the airline’s widebody fleet. These aircraft are deployed on long-haul routes connecting India with destinations in the UK, Europe, the United States and the Far East.
The aircraft underwent interior modification work at Boeing’s facility in Victorville, California. It was later repainted in Air India’s updated livery at a certified aircraft painting facility in San Bernardino.
Following the required regulatory approvals, the aircraft operated a non-stop ferry flight from San Bernardino to Delhi, travelling across the Pacific before landing at 22:44 hrs.

The induction of this aircraft marks the beginning of a phased upgrade programme as the airline continues to update its long-haul fleet.
