Air India to Suspend Delhi–Washington, D.C. Flights from September 1, 2025
Air India will suspend its Delhi–Washington, D.C. services from September 1, 2025, citing operational factors to maintain the reliability of its route network.
The decision follows the start of a retrofit programme for 26 Boeing 787-8 aircraft, which will keep several planes out of service until at least the end of 2026. This, combined with the ongoing closure of airspace over Pakistan, has increased flight times and operational complexity for long-haul routes.
Passengers booked beyond September 1 will be offered alternative arrangements, including rebooking on other flights or full refunds.
Travel to Washington, D.C. will still be possible via one-stop connections through New York (JFK), Newark (EWR), Chicago, and San Francisco, in partnership with Alaska Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Air Lines.

Air India will continue non-stop services between India and six North American destinations, including Toronto and Vancouver.
