Air India Group to Begin Operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport
The Air India Group has announced plans to begin commercial flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA, IATA code: NMI), which is operated by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. This initiative marks the start of the airport’s first phase of operations. The collaboration underscores Air India’s commitment to enhancing both domestic and international connectivity, while also supporting India’s growth as a key air passenger market by 2030.
In the initial phase, Air India Express will operate 20 daily departures (resulting in 40 air traffic movements) to 15 cities in India from NMIA. The airline plans to increase operations to 55 daily departures (110 air traffic movements) by mid-2026, which will include up to five daily international flights. By Winter 2026, the Air India group aims to operate 60 daily departures (120 air traffic movements), connecting passengers to key domestic and international destinations.

Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Air India, said: “We look forward to starting operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport, as Mumbai becomes a city with more than one airport. Our partnership with Adani Airports will support NMIA as a key transit point for both passengers and cargo. This expansion will enhance connectivity between the West, the East, and beyond via India.”

Arun Bansal, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., said: “We are glad to welcome Air India Group to Navi Mumbai International Airport. Their expansion plans align with our goal of establishing NMIA as an efficient hub. Technology adoption and operational planning at the airport will help deliver a smooth passenger experience.”
Air India Express’ operations from NMIA are expected to improve connections to and from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, while facilitating international transit.

Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed in five phases. The launch phase will accommodate 20 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and handle 0.5 million metric tons (MMT) of cargo. Upon completion, NMIA will have the capacity to serve 90 MPPA and handle 3.2 MMT of cargo annually.
