The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that Suvarnabhumi Airport has been upgraded to a four-star rating by Skytrax, the UK-based authority on airline and airport standards. This announcement, made on September 12, 2025, highlights the improvements in service and infrastructure at Thailand’s main international gateway.

The new rating acknowledges enhancements in passenger experience, including streamlined check-in and immigration, modernized facilities with automated passport control, faster boarding pass systems, clearer signage, upgraded restrooms, expanded charging points, and improved Wi-Fi. Upcoming developments include Kids and Gaming Zones, co-working spaces, and cultural displays, further supporting the airport’s role as an efficient hub with Thai hospitality.

Suvarnabhumi Airport serves over 60 million passengers annually and serves as Thailand’s central hub for both domestic and international travel. With a 4-star rating, it solidifies its position within Asia’s aviation network. Plans are in place to expand the airport’s annual capacity from 60 million to 80 million passengers by extending Terminal 1, which is scheduled for completion by 2030. Additionally, long-term plans include the construction of a new Terminal 2 and a fourth runway, which would ultimately increase the airport’s capacity to 120 million passengers per year.

In July 2025, Suvarnabhumi was ranked by Brilliant Maps as the world’s leading airport for airline connectivity, operating scheduled services with 113 carriers. The airport has also moved from 58th to 39th place in the Skytrax World’s Best Airports ranking this year, reflecting continued progress in infrastructure and passenger services.
