Air India Deploys New B787-9 on Mumbai–Frankfurt Route from February 2026
Air India has announced a key upgrade to its daily Mumbai-Frankfurt flight route, with the introduction of a newly delivered line-fit Boeing 787-9 aircraft starting February 1, 2026.
The new aircraft will have refreshed cabins along with other amenities.

The airline currently operates five weekly flights between Mumbai and Frankfurt, strengthening connectivity between two major financial centres. With this deployment, all Air India services to Germany will now be operated using new or upgraded aircraft, including flights on the Delhi–Frankfurt sector.
The move forms part of Air India’s broader fleet modernisation programme, under which additional widebody aircraft deliveries and cabin retrofits are planned through 2026. The initiative is aimed at introducing updated interiors across a significant portion of the airline’s long-haul fleet.
Air India also continues its codeshare partnership with Lufthansa, allowing passengers to connect beyond Frankfurt to 29 destinations across Europe, as well as select cities in North and South America, on a single itinerary.
Optimised schedules further enable one-stop connections via Delhi or Mumbai for travellers moving between Germany and destinations across South Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia. These connections support travel to cities such as Bangkok, Bali, Colombo, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Phuket and Singapore, catering to both business and leisure demand.
