Air France Introduces New Cabin on Embraer 190

On September 1, Air France operated its first flight with an Embraer 190 featuring a redesigned travel cabin. Flight AF1602, operated by regional subsidiary HOP!, connected Paris-Charles de Gaulle with Hamburg. The updated cabin offers Business and Economy customers new seats, Wi-Fi access, and a refreshed interior design.

By summer 2026, all Embraer 190 aircraft in the Air France fleet will be refitted, supporting the airline’s goal of aligning products and services across its short- and medium-haul network.

Cabin features

The Embraer 190 now has 110 seats arranged in a 2-2 configuration. Each leather seat includes ergonomic foam, a tray table, storage space, fold-up armrests, a coat hook, an adjustable headrest, and recline of up to three inches. At eye level, a retractable stand allows customers to place smartphones or tablets securely. USB-A and USB-C ports are available for charging, and a double cup holder is built into each seat.

Business Class is located in the front rows, with a mobile curtain providing separation from the rest of the cabin. From October 2025, each Business customer will benefit from an empty adjacent seat.

All customers can connect to high-speed Wi-Fi for free through their Flying Blue account.

Design

The cabin reflects Air France’s design scheme, featuring blue tones, white for brightness and contrast, and red accents. Stitching on the seat backs, embroidered headrests, and patterned carpeting complete the interior.

Seat production

The seats are designed by the French company Expliseat, with input from designer Andrea Mocellin, and manufactured in Angers. Built with carbon fibre, titanium, and aluminium, they are lighter than previous models. About 30% of the weight reduction contributes to lower fuel use and emissions.

This project is part of Air France’s broader efforts to reduce environmental impact, which also include fleet renewal, the use of sustainable aviation fuel, operational changes, and multimodal transport solutions.
