RAC Protect Introduced for Train Ticket Bookings

RAC Protect Offers ‘Confirm or Save 50%’ Assurance

redRail, part of redBus and an authorized partner of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation, has introduced RAC Protect, a paid add-on designed for passengers booking RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets.

The redRail feature is built around a “Confirm or Save 50%” assurance. If a RAC ticket is not confirmed after chart preparation, users receive a travel voucher worth 50% of the ticket fare. If the ticket is confirmed, the journey proceeds as booked with a full berth.

RAC Protect is intended to address a common concern in train travel, where passengers holding RAC tickets pay the full fare but may have to share a berth. This situation is frequently encountered on high-demand routes, where RAC tickets are often the only available option.

How RAC Protect Works

  • If the ticket is confirmed, passengers receive a full berth with no change
  • If the ticket remains RAC after chart preparation, 50% of the fare is returned as a voucher
  • The voucher can be used on redRail or redBus, subject to applicable terms

The feature is relevant for travellers on busy routes and for those undertaking long-distance or overnight journeys, where seating arrangements can affect comfort. It may also be useful for passengers who prefer greater certainty while planning travel, including women and elderly travellers.

Prakash Sangam, CEO of redBus, noted that the feature is aimed at addressing gaps in the booking experience by offering a clearer outcome for RAC passengers.

As digital adoption in train bookings continues to grow, redRail is introducing features that focus on clarity and ease of use. RAC Protect is part of this approach, with an emphasis on making booking outcomes more predictable for passengers.
