United Airlines Deploys Boeing 737 MAX 8 in Guam
Fleet transition to enhance regional connectivity
United Airlines has introduced its Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in Guam, marking the beginning of a fleet transition across its Pacific network. The airline plans to replace its existing fleet of ten Boeing 737-800 aircraft serving Guam with ten 737 MAX 8 aircraft by the end of 2026.
The aircraft will operate across key regional routes, supporting connectivity between Guam, Asia, and destinations across Micronesia. Scheduled services using the 737 MAX 8 will begin on April 30 on select flights between Guam and Tokyo-Narita, with a phased rollout across additional routes in the coming months.
Updated cabin features and onboard experience

Each United Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 in Guam will feature a two-class layout with 164 seats, including United First and Economy cabins. The aircraft is equipped with seatback screens at every seat, USB charging ports, and Bluetooth connectivity for wireless headphones.
Passengers will have access to onboard entertainment with a library of movies, TV shows, audio content, and games, available in multiple languages relevant to the region. Wi-Fi will also be available for purchase, with plans to introduce Starlink connectivity across United’s fleet in the future.
The cabin design includes larger overhead bins, LED lighting, and additional extra-legroom seating. The aircraft is also equipped with a flexible cabin configuration to accommodate medical stretcher transport when required.
Expanding operations across the Pacific

United’s Guam hub currently connects to 15 destinations, with multiple daily flights across the region. The airline’s network includes routes to Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Palau, and several destinations across Micronesia.
The 737 MAX 8 will gradually operate on routes from Guam, Tokyo-Narita, and other regional hubs, including services to Ulaanbaatar, Koror, Saipan, and Cebu. By the end of 2026, United expects all narrowbody flights from Guam to be operated by the 737 MAX 8.
Continued presence in Guam

United Airlines maintains a strong presence in Guam and Micronesia, employing over 1,000 people in the region. The airline also supports local communities through donations and employee volunteer programmes.
The introduction of the 737 MAX 8 reflects United’s ongoing investment in its Pacific operations, with a focus on updating aircraft and maintaining connectivity across its regional network.
