Taj Cidade de Goa Introduces Dedicated Facilities for Event Support Teams
During major celebrations and conferences, guests enjoy smooth events and attentive service. Behind the scenes, a wide network of event support staff—including technicians, decorators, riggers, loaders, drivers, and coordinators—perform critical work that often goes unnoticed.
During peak event times, the movement of labour within hotel premises increases considerably. Traditionally, many of these teams have had limited access to facilities for meals, rest, and hygiene. To bridge this gap, Taj Cidade de Goa has established a dedicated “Crew Area” for event support staff during large-scale events.
The initiative provides a designated, well-lit, and organised space where crew members can eat, rest between shifts, and stay hydrated. The area also includes access to clean drinking water and hygienic washroom facilities that are readily available and regularly maintained, ensuring basic needs are met practically and respectfully.
Commenting on the initiative, Ranjit Phillipose, Senior Vice President – Operations, IHCL Goa, said, “Hospitality is reflected in how people are treated at every level. The teams working behind the scenes are integral to the success of each event, and it was important to ensure they have access to appropriate facilities that support their work and well-being.”
Industry partners have also welcomed the move. Jerry Pinto, CEO of Buzz Events, noted that access to cleaner dining areas, potable water, and washrooms enables vendor staff and labour teams to work in more comfortable and organised conditions during events.

The initiative reflects an approach where hospitality extends beyond guest-facing services to include those who contribute operationally to events. By providing structured facilities for event management personnel, Taj Cidade de Goa highlights the importance of inclusion, safety, and basic comfort within the hospitality ecosystem.
As hotels and venues continue to host large and complex events, these measures point to a broader shift in recognising and supporting the workforce that enables these experiences.
