Sofitel London St James Unveils Redesigned Signature Suites
New suites reflect 1970s design influences and French-inspired interiors
Sofitel London St James has introduced a redesigned collection of signature suites as part of its ongoing refurbishment programme, developed in collaboration with French interior architect Pierre-Yves Rochon.
The update includes six suites, with the launch of Suite 70 and the Opera Suite marking the completion of the hotel’s multi-phase transformation.
Design approach and concept

The redesign draws on elements of 1970s design, combining influences from London’s creative culture of the period with French design principles. The concept reflects a balance between bold visual elements and more subdued, residential-style interiors.
Suite 70 features a design inspired by 1970s music and stage aesthetics, incorporating contrasting colours and decorative elements inspired by the era. The suite includes bespoke furniture, curated artwork and design features that reference live performance environments.
The Opera Suite presents a more understated approach, with softer tones and materials that create a residential-style setting. The space includes custom furnishings, a dedicated seating area and views over Waterloo Place.
Bespoke interiors and art integration

Both suites include custom-designed furniture and materials, alongside curated art collections selected to reflect the cultural references behind the redesign. Design elements have been developed in collaboration with specialist partners, with a focus on combining functionality and visual identity.
The interiors also feature furnishings by designers such as Pierre Paulin, alongside tailored pieces created specifically for the suites.
Part of a wider refurbishment programme

The redesign of Sofitel London St James forms part of a broader investment across Sofitel properties globally. The programme includes refurbishments and new developments in cities such as New York, Montreal, Sydney and Cairo.
The Sofitel London property continues to offer guest facilities, including dining venues, lounge spaces, and in-room amenities, as part of its updated positioning within the city’s hospitality landscape.
