Delta and YouTube Premium Launch ‘Overhead Originals’ with Leon Thomas
In-flight performance series connects travel, music and culture
Delta Air Lines and YouTube Premium have introduced Overhead Originals, a new content project featuring live in-flight music performances.
The series begins with a performance by Leon Thomas, recorded onboard a Delta Boeing 767. The initiative explores how travel environments can foster creativity by offering diverse settings for artists to perform and connect with audiences.
The performance is now available on Delta’s YouTube channel and is expected to be added to the airline’s in-flight entertainment system later this summer.
A performance shaped by travel
Leon Thomas, a three-time GRAMMY Award winner, opens the series with an intimate set performed for a small group of SkyMiles members and Delta employees onboard the aircraft.
His music, known for blending soul and storytelling, reflects the influence of travel on his creative process. The setting was chosen to highlight how time spent in transit can offer a different perspective, shaping both music and performance.
Although recorded for a limited onboard audience, the content is designed for wider viewing through digital platforms and onboard entertainment.
Expanded access for SkyMiles members
Passengers travelling within the United States can access additional benefits linked to the partnership. SkyMiles members connected to Delta Sync Wi-Fi, presented by T-Mobile, can access a 14-day free preview of YouTube Premium on their personal devices, without requiring payment details.
The subscription includes features such as ad-free viewing, offline downloads and background playback across YouTube and YouTube Music.
Enhancing the onboard entertainment offering

Alongside video content, Delta is expanding its onboard audio experience through YouTube Music. This includes curated playlists for different stages of travel, as well as updated boarding music featuring instrumental and ambient selections.
The project forms part of Delta’s broader approach to in-flight entertainment, supported by onboard connectivity and seatback screens across its aircraft. The aim is to provide passengers with a wider range of content options during their journey.
