Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said, “This recognition from Lonely Planet reflects Phuket’s continuing appeal and Thailand’s focus on responsible tourism. It underscores how creativity, community, and culture shape the Thai travel experience and connect with visitors from around the world.”

Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2026 feature presents Phuket as a destination that combines coastal relaxation with local creativity and culture. The publication also introduces a new travel itinerary for the island, highlighting experiences in beaches, gastronomy, art, and design, encouraging travellers to experience Phuket through a contemporary lens.

Founded in 1970, Lonely Planet is a global travel media brand known for its guidebooks and digital platforms. Its annual Best in Travel list identifies noteworthy destinations and experiences for the coming year.

Following the announcement, CNN featured Phuket in its article titled “25 must-visit places and must-do experiences named for 2026”, contributing to wider international attention on Thailand’s tourism offerings.

This acknowledgment from Lonely Planet adds to Thailand’s recent international recognitions, including mentions in the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2025 (US and UK editions), reflecting the country’s continuing focus on quality tourism, cultural heritage, and sustainable practices.
