Miami International Airport Digital Monitoring Hub to Enhance Airport Operations

Miami International Airport has announced plans for a new Airport Operations Center and Digital Monitoring Hub that will become the first airport-wide digital monitoring hub of its kind in the United States.

The project was unveiled by Daniella Levine Cava along with airport officials. The new facility is scheduled for completion in 2027.

New Facility Will Support Airport Safety and Operations

The upcoming Airport Operations Center will be a 13,254-square-foot facility valued at $33 million.

According to airport officials, the centre will include AI-powered long-range pan-tilt-zoom cameras, digital tower technology and a large HD integrated panoramic video wall designed to provide 360-degree visibility across airport operations.

The system will monitor airside, landside and terminal areas to improve operational awareness, safety and security.

Emergency Response Features Included

The new operations centre is also being designed to function as an emergency operations facility during crisis situations.

Features planned for the facility include hurricane-resistant towers, vibration-controlled platforms and cyber-secure systems.

The building will also have space for representatives from 30 agencies to work together during emergency situations.

Project Part of Wider Airport Modernisation Plan

The future operations centre forms part of the airport’s broader $14 billion Modernization in Action Plan.

The programme includes more than 200 infrastructure and passenger experience projects planned across the airport over the next five years.

Additional Airport Projects Underway

Other projects included in the modernisation programme are:

  • The new Ibis Garage, which opened in December 2025
  • Preventive maintenance and upgrades for more than 600 elevators, escalators and moving walkways
  • Renovation of 196 public access restrooms across terminals and concourses
  • The Concourse K expansion project expected to open in 2029
  • The Gate D60 expansion project scheduled for completion in 2030

“In addition to ranking among the busiest airports in the world, MIA is also a proven industry leader in multi-agency collaboration, integrated airport operations, and incident management. As MIA continues to modernize every step of the passenger journey from the cabin to the curb, its world-class safety and security posture will take another giant leap forward with this cutting-edge operations center. This state-of-the-art facility is just the latest example of how MIA is becoming more customer-friendly, modern, and future-ready than ever before, to better protect and serve our travelers and employees.” Said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.
