Marriott Signs Agreement to Launch St. Regis Hotel in Queenstown

Marriott International has signed an agreement with PHC Queenstown Limited to introduce the St. Regis Hotels & Resorts brand in Queenstown. The property is expected to open in late 2027 and will mark the brand’s entry into New Zealand.

The hotel will be developed on a central site in Queenstown with views of the The Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu. The planned property will include around 145 guest rooms and suites and will be Marriott’s first hotel in Queenstown.

According to Richard Crawford, establishing a presence in Queenstown has been part of the company’s development strategy in the region. He noted that the destination attracts a large number of visitors each year and continues to see demand for new hospitality projects.

The agreement also represents another collaboration between Marriott International and the Pandey family, which operates several hospitality developments in New Zealand.

Planned hotel facilities

The proposed hotel will include a range of dining venues and social spaces associated with the St. Regis brand. Planned outlets include The Drawing Room, The St. Regis Bar, an all-day dining restaurant and event facilities.

Guests will also have access to the brand’s traditional St. Regis Butler Service, which provides personalised assistance, including packing and unpacking, garment pressing, and customised in-room services.

Wellness facilities at the hotel are expected to include the St. Regis Spa, which will feature hydrothermal facilities and relaxation spaces. The property will also include an indoor heated swimming pool and a fitness centre.

Development plans

Prakash Pandey said the project forms part of the company’s investment plans in the hospitality sector. PHC currently has around 30 hotels operating or under development across New Zealand.

He added that the development is expected to contribute to the local economy during construction and create employment opportunities once the hotel opens.

The Queenstown property will be PHC’s third hotel project with Marriott International, reflecting an ongoing partnership between the two companies.

Brand expansion in the region

The St. Regis brand was established in New York City in 1904 and today includes more than 65 hotels worldwide. The Queenstown project forms part of Marriott’s development pipeline for the brand in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific region.

Once completed, The St. Regis Queenstown will expand the brand’s presence in the region and add a new hotel option for travellers visiting Queenstown.
