Lufthansa Group and Munich Airport Plan Terminal 2 Expansion

New T-Pier to Increase Capacity and Support Long-Term Growth

Lufthansa Group and Munich Airport have extended their partnership and outlined plans to expand Terminal 2, focusing on increasing capacity and supporting future air traffic growth.

The agreement between the two partners will continue through 2056, reinforcing their joint approach to hub development at Munich Airport.

A key part of the plan is the construction of a new pier, referred to as the T-Pier, which will be connected to the existing Terminal 2 satellite building. The expansion is scheduled for completion in 2035 and is expected to add capacity for up to 10 million additional passengers per year.

Expansion Supports Hub Development and Network Growth

The project is designed to support the growth of Lufthansa’s long-haul operations from Munich, alongside increased passenger traffic at Germany’s second-largest airport.

Terminal 2, operated jointly by the Lufthansa Group and Munich Airport, is used by Lufthansa and its partner airlines. The facility has seen steady growth since its opening, with capacity expansions already undertaken through the addition of a satellite building.

The new agreement enables the next phase of planning for the expansion project and continues the long-term collaboration between the airline group and the airport operator.

In addition to developments in Munich, the Lufthansa Group is also advancing infrastructure and operational improvements at its Frankfurt hub, including investments in cargo facilities and terminal operations.
