KLM Shares Simulator Training Expertise to Support Healthcare Sector
KLM recently hosted the Technology Expert Panel from DUTCH (Digital United Training Concepts for Healthcare) at its simulator center in Schiphol-East. The panel members toured the facility and had the opportunity to experience flight simulations firsthand. By sharing knowledge in simulation training, KLM aims to support the healthcare sector and contribute to the preparation of well-trained healthcare professionals in the Netherlands.
The healthcare sector requires many new employees, and much of the current training takes place in practical settings. By incorporating simulation, education for healthcare professionals can become more effective and structured. DUTCH, a program of the National Growth Fund, focuses on modernizing healthcare training and building an ecosystem where healthcare, education, and technology collaborate, involving hospitals, colleges, EdTech companies, and knowledge partners like KLM and the Ministry of Defence.
Simulator training has long been integral to KLM’s programs, preparing staff for realistic operational scenarios. KLM is now applying this experience to develop simulation environments for healthcare professionals, where the use of simulation is still emerging.

“For many years, simulator training has prepared our colleagues for working in aviation using realistic scenarios. It is valuable that we can now use this knowledge to help the healthcare sector develop simulation-based training,” said Arnoud Wellhüner, Director of Flight Crew Training at KLM and participant in the DUTCH program.
The DUTCH program is guided by an expert panel with representatives from sectors such as petrochemicals, shipping, software, nuclear industry, and aviation, where safety, regulation, innovation, and development are key priorities.
