Jamaica Records Over One Million Visitors Following Tourism Recovery

Jamaica has recorded over one million visitor arrivals following recent disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions, indicating a recovery in its tourism sector.
Connectivity and Events Support Jamaica Tourism Growth
The milestone reflects the resumption of tourism activity across the island, supported by coordination between government agencies, tourism authorities and industry stakeholders. Infrastructure and services were restored in phases, allowing the destination to continue receiving international travellers.
According to officials, recovery efforts were supported by established crisis management frameworks and operational planning aimed at minimising disruption to tourism services.
Tourism Minister Hon. Edmund Bartlett highlighted the resilience of the sector, noting that Jamaica’s recovery has been supported by long-term planning and crisis management frameworks.

“Our ability to recover quickly is a testament to the resilience of Jamaica’s tourism sector and the strength of our partnerships. We have built a model that allows us to respond, recover and continue to grow even in the face of disruptions,” Bartlett said.
Director of Tourism Donovan White emphasized the importance of maintaining confidence among international visitors.

“Jamaica remains a destination that travellers trust. Our focus has been on ensuring that visitors continue to receive a high-quality experience while we strengthen the systems that support long-term tourism growth,” White noted.
Demand Supported by Leisure and Cultural Offerings
The rebound in visitor numbers has been linked to demand across leisure, cultural and nature-based travel segments. Jamaica continues to attract travellers through a mix of resort stays, cultural experiences and outdoor activities.
Role of Events in Driving Arrivals
Events such as Jamaica Carnival have contributed to visitor inflows by generating demand for accommodation, transport and related services. The event draws both international and regional visitors annually.
Improved Connectivity to Support Growth
Connectivity improvements are also expected to support tourism recovery. Virgin Atlantic has announced plans to increase flight frequency between London Heathrow Airport and Montego Bay to daily services during the Summer 2026 season.
This increase in capacity is expected to enhance access from long-haul markets, including India, by providing additional one-stop travel options.
Outlook for the Tourism Sector
Jamaica continues to focus on strengthening infrastructure, expanding connectivity and promoting experiential travel offerings as part of its tourism strategy.
