IHG Signs Holiday Inn Express Sapporo Susukino in Japan
Holiday Inn Express Expands Presence in Sapporo
IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of Holiday Inn Express Sapporo Susukino, marking the brand’s second Holiday Inn Express property in Japan. The hotel is being developed in partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development Co., Ltd., Tokyo Tatemono Co., Ltd., and The Sankei Building Co., Ltd.
Located in Susukino, Sapporo’s entertainment and dining district, the hotel is positioned to cater to both domestic and international travellers. The 223-room property is scheduled to open in July 2026 and is currently undergoing renovation.
The hotel will be the first Holiday Inn Express in Japan to feature the brand’s Generation 5 design. Facilities will include an Express Café, a fitness centre, and a guest laundry, designed to support efficient, practical stays.
Holiday Inn Express continues to expand globally, with 3,292 hotels currently open and 655 in development. The brand focuses on straightforward, convenient stays that appeal to both business and leisure travellers and includes a complimentary hot breakfast.

Abhijay Sandilya, Managing Director, Japan & Micronesia at IHG Hotels & Resorts and CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, said the project reflects collaboration with new partners and ongoing development in a key destination. He also noted that all hotel openings in Japan in 2026 are conversions, indicating continued interest from owners seeking access to IHG’s systems, distribution network, and its IHG One Rewards programme.
The ownership group stated that the partnership supports the introduction of the Holiday Inn Express brand in Hokkaido, with confidence in IHG’s experience and local market understanding.
Susukino is one of Sapporo’s central districts, known for its dining and entertainment options. Nearby attractions include the Susukino Intersection and Ramen Alley. The hotel will be within walking distance of Susukino Subway Station and Shiseikan Shogakkō-mae Streetcar Station, providing access across the city.
IHG currently operates 59 hotels across 10 brands in Japan, with 24 additional properties in development, indicating continued expansion in the market.
