IHCL and CG Hospitality Global Open Taj Gangtey Resort & Spa in Bhutan
Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the opening of Taj Gangtey Resort & Spa in Phobjikha, Bhutan, strengthening its presence in the Himalayan kingdom through its partnership with CG Hospitality Global.

Commenting on the opening, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of IHCL, said the launch aligns with the company’s strategy to expand its footprint across the subcontinent. He noted that Bhutan continues to attract global leisure travellers for its blend of nature and culture. The project is developed in partnership with Happiness Resort & Spa, a collaboration involving Anan Gurung and CG Hospitality Global, part of CG Corp Global.
Located in the Phobjikha Valley, Taj Gangtey Resort & Spa is a 35-key property designed to reflect the calm and natural character of its surroundings. The resort integrates valley views and local influences across its rooms and public spaces.
Dining options include Chang Lounge & Bar, with a relaxed indoor setting, and Vista, serving regional and international cuisine in a Bhutanese-inspired environment. Wellness facilities include the J Wellness Circle Spa, an indoor heated swimming pool, a fitness centre, and yoga programmes led by trained instructors.

Guests can also participate in curated experiences such as guided monastery walks, nature trails through the valley meadows, and seasonal crane spotting, all of which reflect the region’s ecological importance.
Dr Binod Chaudhary, Chairman of CG Corp Global, and Rahul Chaudhary, MD & CEO of CG Hospitality Global, said that Phobjikha’s cultural and natural character makes it well-suited to a hospitality offering that respects local traditions and the environment. They added that the partnership with IHCL supports a shared approach to destination-led hospitality.
Anan Gurung, CEO of Happiness Resort & Spa, Bhutan, said the resort aims to present Bhutan’s cultural and Himalayan heritage through a hospitality experience developed in collaboration with the Taj brand.
Phobjikha is one of Bhutan’s glacial valleys, recognised for its open landscapes, natural setting, and long-standing cultural traditions. The area is also known as a seasonal habitat for migratory black-necked cranes, making it an important ecological zone.
Expanding Regional Portfolio
The partnership between IHCL and CG Hospitality Global spans several destinations across the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East. The current operating portfolio includes Taj Gangtey Resort & Spa and Taj Paro Resort & Spa in Bhutan; Taj Exotica Resort & Spa and Taj Coral Reef Resort & Spa in the Maldives; Taj Samudra, Colombo in Sri Lanka; Taj Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Dubai; two Vivanta hotels in Nepal; and Taj Safaris lodges across India and Nepal.
