Marion Barrère, Strategic Development Director, Mr & Mrs Smith, said: “At Mr & Mrs Smith, we look for stays that share a strong sense of purpose. Asilia, a certified B Corporation, embeds sustainability into its operations, from community partnerships to conservation initiatives. This collaboration expands our African portfolio and introduces members to new experiences, including Uganda as an additional destination.”

Safari with Purpose

Asilia, founded on the principle of authenticity (“asilia” in Swahili), operates in ecologically sensitive regions. In 2012, it became the first African travel company to receive B Corp certification, an assessment that measures environmental and social impact across business operations.

Matt Starkey, Managing Director, Asilia Africa, said: “For conservation to be effective, communities living alongside wildlife must see benefits. We direct investment into education, training, governance and livelihood programs in the areas where we operate. Guest stays form part of a shared effort to maintain healthy landscapes and support local communities. Our collaboration with Hyatt and Mr & Mrs Smith helps strengthen this model.”

As part of NawiriGroup, Asilia contributed more than $11 million in 2024 toward nature protection and community-led projects through park fees and direct program funding. Supported initiatives include governance, education, regenerative agriculture, land restoration and community partnerships, such as Honeyguide in southern Tanzania.
Asilia also played a founding role in establishing the Naboisho Conservancy, which has supported wildlife recovery and protected migration corridors.

Participation in the World of Hyatt program aims to increase visibility for Asilia camps and further support community and conservation efforts.
