Curio Collection Brings Historic Hotel to San Sebastián

Hilton has opened Hotel Palacio Bellas Artes San Sebastián, Curio Collection by Hilton, following the restoration of the historic Palacio Bellas Artes building in the heart of San Sebastián, Spain.

Originally built in 1914, the Beaux Arts landmark once housed one of Spain’s earliest cinemas. After an extensive restoration, the building has been transformed into an 81-room hotel that combines its architectural heritage with contemporary hospitality, design, and dining.

Restoring a Historic Landmark

Located within walking distance of San Sebastián’s coastline, Old Town, galleries and theatres, the hotel has retained many of the building’s original architectural features while introducing modern interiors inspired by its cinematic past.

The restoration, led by architect Ignacio Quemada, included rebuilding the property’s distinctive dome and preserving the façade and decorative details that define the landmark.

Design Inspired by Cinema

The hotel’s interiors have been designed by Isabel López Vilalta + Asociados, drawing inspiration from the building’s history as a theatre and cinema.

Guests enter through the former stage before moving into spaces influenced by light, movement and storytelling. The property offers 81 guest rooms and suites, each designed around a cinematic theme.

Every room also features a commissioned artwork as part of ‘Creation: Light, Movement and Gaze’, a collection curated by Basque artist Lander Andonegi.

Dining at Lotu

The hotel is also home to Lotu, a restaurant led by chef Andoni Luis Aduriz.

Inspired by the social dining culture of the early twentieth century, the restaurant serves traditional and contemporary cuisine, featuring dishes prepared with regional ingredients alongside international influences.

The hotel also includes a bakery producing fresh breads and pastries daily, while the lobby bar provides an all-day space for guests and visitors.

Expanding Hilton’s Presence in Spain

Hilton said the opening strengthens its presence in Spain while adding another property to the Curio Collection by Hilton portfolio, which features hotels with distinctive local character.

The hotel also participates in the Hilton Honors loyalty programme, allowing members to earn and redeem points during their stay.
