Ginger Signs First Hotel in Shillong, Expanding into Meghalaya
Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has announced the signing of a Ginger hotel in Shillong, marking the brand’s debut in Meghalaya. This will be a greenfield project.
Ms. Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President – Real Estate & Development at IHCL, said, “Shillong, with its vibrant spirit, aligns with Ginger’s philosophy of blending work and play. Under the Smart City program, Shillong is developing into an administrative and economic hub. Its location, along with views of the surrounding hills, makes it suitable for the brand to serve the city’s hospitality needs. We are pleased to partner with Mr. Khongsngi for this project.”
The 90-key Ginger Shillong will include the brand’s all-day dining restaurant Qmin, a bar, a meeting room, and a fitness centre, catering to both business and leisure travellers.
Mr. Khongsngi added, “We are pleased to partner with IHCL to bring the Ginger brand to Shillong and contribute to the city’s hospitality landscape.”
Often called the Scotland of the East, Shillong combines colonial architecture with Khasi cultural elements. The city is known for its rolling hills, temperate climate, and attractions such as the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival, Umiam Lake, and Elephant Falls. With this addition, IHCL will operate three hotels in Meghalaya, including one currently under development.
