Emirates Marks 20 Years of Operations in Thiruvananthapuram
Emirates has marked 20 years of operations in Thiruvananthapuram, a key gateway in its South India network supporting passenger travel, trade, and tourism.
Since commencing services on February 1, 2006, Emirates has carried more than 4.6 million passengers on over 19,000 flights between Dubai and Thiruvananthapuram. The route has supported international connectivity for Kerala, linking the state to destinations across the airline’s global network via Dubai.
Emirates currently serves nine gateways in India, operating 167 weekly flights connecting Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Thiruvananthapuram with Dubai and onward destinations across six continents.
The milestone was marked in the presence of the Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, highlighting ongoing cooperation between the airline, state authorities, and airport stakeholders.
Commenting on the occasion, Mohammad Sarhan, Vice President – India and Nepal, Emirates, said the airline’s long-standing presence in Thiruvananthapuram has supported connectivity for travellers while contributing to tourism and trade links between Kerala and international markets.
Enhancing global connectivity
Over the past two decades, Emirates has connected Thiruvananthapuram to destinations across Europe, North America, the Middle East, and beyond through its Dubai hub. The services have supported demand from business travellers, leisure passengers, and the visiting friends and relatives (VFR) segment, while also contributing to inbound travel into Kerala.
Popular destinations connected from Thiruvananthapuram include London, New York, Frankfurt, Manchester, Toronto, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Houston, and Manama, with Kuwait City also serving as a key feeder market.
Supporting trade and cargo

Emirates SkyCargo has supported Kerala’s export activity by connecting local producers and businesses to international markets. Since 2019, more than 34,000 tonnes of cargo have been uplifted from Thiruvananthapuram, including seafood, vegetables, and other perishable goods, supported by specialised logistics solutions for time-sensitive shipments.
Onboard experience
Emirates offers a multi-cabin service on flights from Thiruvananthapuram, with options across First Class, Business Class, and Economy. Passengers across all cabins have access to regionally inspired meals, including vegetarian and vegan choices, and the airline’s inflight entertainment system, ice, which features more than 6,500 channels, including content in Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada.
As it marks two decades of service to Thiruvananthapuram, Emirates said it remains focused on supporting tourism, facilitating global trade, and strengthening economic and cultural links between Kerala and the wider world.
