British Airways Launches Starlink Wi-Fi Service
Airline begins rollout with Boeing 787-8 fleet
British Airways has launched its first aircraft equipped with Starlink Wi-Fi, making it the first UK airline to introduce satellite-based connectivity. The Boeing 787-8 operating a flight to Houston is the first in the airline’s fleet to offer free onboard internet access for browsing, streaming, and work.
Powered by a network of more than 10,000 low-Earth-orbit satellites, Starlink enables high-speed connectivity in the air, with download speeds exceeding 500 Mbps. The service allows passengers to connect multiple devices and use the internet in a way similar to being on the ground.
Fleet-wide rollout underway

British Airways is currently installing Starlink across its Boeing 787-8 aircraft and plans to expand the service across its entire fleet of more than 300 aircraft over the next two years. The airline confirmed that the Wi-Fi will be available free of charge for all passengers across all cabins.
Sean Doyle, Chairman and Chief Executive of British Airways, said the introduction reflects the airline’s focus on improving connectivity for travellers. He noted that passengers increasingly expect reliable internet access, whether travelling for business or leisure.
Supporting operations and customer experience

In addition to passenger use, the connectivity will support cabin and flight crew by enabling real-time communication with ground teams. This is expected to assist with operational coordination and service delivery.
The Starlink rollout is part of British Airways’ broader investment programme, which includes funding across customer experience, digital technology, and infrastructure. The airline is investing £7 billion in areas such as lounge upgrades in Dubai and Miami, as well as in AI and other technologies to improve operational efficiency.
