Anantara Chiang Mai Resort Launches Spice Spoons Cooking Class Cruises on the Mae Ping River

Anantara Chiang Mai Resort has introduced a new way for guests to experience Thailand’s culinary heritage with the launch of Spice Spoons Cooking Class Cruises aboard the Nam Jit, a hand-carved teak pontoon that sails the Mae Ping River.

The new journey blends two of the resort’s signature offerings – the Spice Spoons cooking class and the JAO Ping River Cruise – into one immersive cultural experience.

The culinary adventure begins with a guided tuk-tuk ride to Chiang Mai’s bustling local market, where chefs introduce participants to essential Thai ingredients, offer substitutions for home cooking, and encourage tastings of freshly prepared snacks. Guests then board the Nam Jit, designed in traditional Lanna style, to prepare classic dishes such as tom yum goong, green curry, and northern specialties like khao soi noodles and hung lay curry.

Dishes crafted during the class are enjoyed for lunch on board, accompanied by panoramic views of Chiang Mai from the river. Each participant departs with a Spice Spoons certificate and a recipe set to recreate the flavors at home.

Arnaud Béril

“The Spice Spoons cooking experience abroad Nam Jit is a truly unique way to discover the soul of Chiang Mai,” said Arnaud Béril, Cluster General Manager of Anantara Chiang Mai Resort and Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort. “It reflects Anantara’s promise to connect travellers with the authentic essence of each destination – in this case, through food, community, and the beauty of the river.”

The Spice Spoons cruise is priced at THB 4,800++ per person with the market tour, or THB 3,800++ for the class and cruise only. Market tours start at 10:00 am, followed by the river cruise at 11:00 am. Advance reservations (24 hours) are required. Guests may also choose the on-land Spice Spoons cooking class at Bodhi Terrace.

The Nam Jit is part of the JAO Ping River Cruise fleet, which offers distinctive experiences ranging from morning cultural excursions to sunset sails and Michelin-starred chef dinners aboard Dibba Yana Chitta, a floating artwork by renowned Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat.
