AirAsia Launches New Fifth Freedom Route via Luang Prabang
AirAsia is expanding its operations by utilizing Fifth Freedom rights with the launch of a new round-trip service connecting Bangkok (DMK), Luang Prabang (LPQ), and Hanoi (HAN). This marks the airline’s first stopover in Laos and its first Fifth Freedom route outside of Japan.
The new connection is designed to meet the growing demand for international travel between Luang Prabang and Hanoi, while enhancing regional connectivity across ASEAN.

Mr. Santisuk Klongchaiya, Chief Executive Officer of Thai AirAsia, said: “We are pleased to introduce this new route under Fifth Freedom rights, with Luang Prabang as our first stopover city. The route adds daily direct flights between Luang Prabang and Hanoi, providing more travel options within the region.”
The airline is set to begin its Don Mueang–Luang Prabang–Hanoi service on December 1, 2025, using an Airbus aircraft with 180 seats. Bookings can now be made through MOVE, the official website, as well as other distribution channels.
