Air passenger market shows mixed regional trends in March

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released data showing that global air passenger demand increased by 2.1% in March 2026 compared to the same period last year.

Total capacity declined by 1.7% year-on-year, while the global load factor rose to 83.6%, up 3.1 percentage points.

International traffic declined by 0.6%, influenced by a significant drop in demand from carriers in the Middle East. In contrast, domestic travel recorded a 6.5% increase, supported by growth in several key markets.

William M. Walsh

According to Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, overall demand continued to grow despite disruptions in parts of the Middle East. He noted that traffic outside the region performed better, while factors such as fuel supply and pricing may influence future travel patterns.
