Accor Signs Agreement for Sofitel Genoa Waterfront Hotel Opening in 2027
Accor has announced the signing of Sofitel Genoa Waterfront, a new hotel scheduled to open in 2027 on the city’s waterfront. The project is being developed in partnership with AG Group, an integrated tourism operator in Italy. Sofitel Genoa Waterfront will introduce the brand’s French-inspired style to the Ligurian capital.
The hotel will offer 120 guestrooms, including 20 suites, and has been designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW), the architectural practice led by Renzo Piano. It forms part of the broader Waterfront di Levante redevelopment, with Orion and CDS Holding SpA acting as investors and developers.
Planned facilities include an all-day dining restaurant, lobby lounge bar, pool bar, spa, gym, swimming pool, and two meeting rooms. The location will also benefit from upgraded transport connections, including high-speed rail links to Milan expected by 2026, and proximity to Portofino and Cinque Terre.
“Italy is an important market for Sofitel in Southern Europe, and Sofitel Genoa Waterfront is a step in our growth strategy after Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese. We are pleased to work with AG Group to bring the Sofitel brand to the Liguria region,” said Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery and Emblems.
AG Group, founded over 20 years ago, operates across hotels, destination management, restaurants, and consulting. The group has worked with Accor on other projects within the luxury segment. As part of the Genova Waterfront redevelopment, Fortvny, a hotel advisory firm led by CEO Harry Mills Sciò, supported the process to identify AG Group as the operator.

We are proud to join forces with Accor to bring Sofitel to Genova. This project not only reinforces our commitment to luxury hospitality in Italy but also showcases our dedication to creating destinations that blend cultural heritage, world-class design, and memorable guest experiences,” said Andrea Girolami, Founder and President of AG Group.
With this signing, Sofitel is adding to its presence in Italy, where it currently operates in Rome and has developments underway in other key cities, including Milan, Venice, and Palermo. Sofitel Genoa will be among the first internationally branded luxury hotels in the town, which independent operators currently dominate.
