Marriott International Partners with Fitwel for Residential Wellness

Fitwel Partnership Supports Wellness Across Marriott Residences Portfolio

Marriott International has announced an agreement with Fitwel to integrate wellness-focused solutions across its global branded residential portfolio.

The collaboration marks Fitwel’s first enterprise partnership and sees Marriott become the first hospitality company to receive Fitwel’s Champion+ designation. The agreement is designed to support the implementation of health and wellness standards across Marriott’s residential portfolio, creating a consistent framework for healthier living environments.

Joanna Frank, President and CEO of the Centre for Active Design and Active Design Advisors, said the collaboration reflects the growing importance of health and wellbeing within the real estate and hospitality sectors. She added that the partnership demonstrates how wellness strategies can be implemented across large residential portfolios to benefit residents, owners and communities.

The agreement builds on a pilot programme completed at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Chicago, Magnificent Mile, which achieved a two-star Fitwel Certification in March. The property includes a rooftop fruit and vegetable garden, a fitness centre, saunas, steam rooms and a range of wellness-focused facilities for residents.

Marriott plans to expand Fitwel Certification across additional branded residential developments and expects several properties within its portfolio to achieve certification by the end of the year.

The company currently operates 153 branded residential properties worldwide, with a further 183 developments in its pipeline. Across these projects, Marriott continues to incorporate wellness-focused amenities and design features that support resident well-being.

Examples include W Residences Dubai – The Palm, which features solar panels, wellness facilities, a cold plunge pool and tennis courts. The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Muskoka, currently under development, is planned to include a greenhouse, fitness trails and outdoor recreational facilities. Meanwhile, The St. Regis Residences, Bangkok and The Residences at The St. Regis Marsa Arabia Island offer wellness programmes through partnerships with Clinique La Prairie.

Originally developed by the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), Fitwel provides a certification framework that focuses on improving health, well-being, and environmental quality within buildings and communities.

Marriott has previously achieved Fitwel certification at other properties, including its global headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, which received a three-star Fitwel certification following its opening in 2022.
