Hotel de l’Opera Hanoi – MGallery Collection Announces Phased Renovation to Conclude in 2026
Hotel de l’Opera Hanoi – MGallery Collection, located near the Hanoi Opera House and the city’s Old Quarter, has announced a multi-phase renovation programme scheduled for completion in 2026. Guided by culture, artistry and storytelling, the renovation offers a contemporary interpretation of the hotel’s theatrical identity, with updated design elements and refreshed guest spaces that reflect both heritage and modern comfort.
Renovation Timeline and Scope
The first phase of renovations took place between May and October 2025, covering 50% of the hotel’s rooms and suites across the first to fourth floors. This phase also included updates to two key dining venues — Lautrec and Son Mai.
A final phase is expected to begin in summer 2026, extending renovations to the remaining rooms and the lobby. It will also introduce updated leisure and event spaces, including the pool, banquet facilities, and new dining concepts. The hotel will remain open throughout the renovation, with work planned in stages to minimise disruption.
Design Concept: A Contemporary Take on “A Night at the Opera”

Inspired by its proximity to the Hanoi Opera House, the hotel’s “A Night at the Opera” narrative continues to shape the renovation approach. The design updates focus on refined materials, updated colour palettes and lighting inspired by performance, interpreted through a modern lens.
Guest rooms and suites have been redesigned to blend French colonial influences with a more contemporary look. Tones such as crimson, olive-gold and warm ochre feature across interiors, complemented by clean-lined furnishings, textured fabrics and subtle Art Deco detailing.
Bathrooms have been conceived as private dressing rooms, featuring vanity mirrors, mosaic tiles, and lighting designed to evoke a theatrical atmosphere.
Updated Dining and New Guest Spaces
Lautrec, the hotel’s signature restaurant, has reopened in its indoor atrium, with a refreshed concept centred on a live kitchen, reinforcing its role as a social dining space.
Beyond accommodation and dining, the renovation includes new areas designed for quieter moments. A library lounge is set to open on the seventh floor, offering a calm space above the city, while a coffee lounge on the second floor will add a more casual setting for guests.
An Italian luxury brand boutique will also open on the hotel’s premises, with direct street access and a design aligned with the property’s overall aesthetic.
In addition, a new M Moment — MGallery’s signature destination-based guest experience — is currently in development, with details to be announced later.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Sustainability Measures
The renovation programme includes operational improvements, including the installation of new chiller systems to enhance energy efficiency and guest comfort. The hotel has also added 600 square metres of rooftop solar panels, expected to reduce grid energy dependency by approximately 5%.
Community Partnerships Continue
Hotel de l’Opera Hanoi – MGallery Collection continues its collaboration with VietHarvest, redistributing surplus food to underserved communities, and maintains support for The Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation. These initiatives contributed to the hotel’s recognition as one of Vietnam’s Top 10 Best Green Hotels at the Vietnam Tourism Awards 2025.

“Our renovation is not about changing who we are, but about refining it,” said Alberto J. Lugo-Vina, General Manager of Hotel de l’Opera Hanoi – MGallery Collection.
“Every update has been guided by the same question: how do we honour the theatre, the heritage and the soul of this hotel, while ensuring it remains relevant, comfortable and meaningful for today’s traveller?”
With its phased renovation continuing through 2026, Hotel de l’Opera Hanoi – MGallery Collection is updating its spaces while maintaining the design narrative and sense of place that define the property.
