Turkish Airlines Invests in SAFFA Fund for Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Turkish Airlines has joined the SAFFA Fund, a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) investment fund established in December 2023 to support the development and production of sustainable aviation fuels and help the aviation industry reduce carbon emissions.

Managed by Burnham Sterling Asset Management (BSAM), with Airbus as the anchor investor, the SAFFA Fund brings together airlines, aviation companies and financial institutions to invest in sustainable aviation fuel projects that have reached technological maturity.

Through its participation, Turkish Airlines aims to strengthen access to sustainable aviation fuels while supporting investment in feedstock development and technologies that contribute to the future of sustainable aviation. The investment also supports the airline’s long-term sustainability strategy and efforts to strengthen fuel supply security.

The investment further expands Turkish Airlines’ sustainability collaboration with Airbus and reflects the two organisations’ shared focus on supporting the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel.

Levent Konukcu, Chief Investment & Strategy Officer at Turkish Airlines, said the investment will support the development of the sustainable aviation fuel ecosystem while enabling the airline to participate in projects that contribute to the aviation industry’s transition towards lower-emission operations.

Michael Dickey Morgan, Executive Managing Director of Burnham Sterling Asset Management LLC, said Turkish Airlines’ participation strengthens the fund’s investment strategy and reflects continued interest from airlines in supporting sustainable aviation fuel projects.
