TAT Receives Global Leadership Award 2025 for Tourism Innovation

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) received the Global Leadership Award 2025 for Industry Excellence in Tourism Innovation and Transformation during the 13th Global Leadership Awards (GLA) ceremony, which took place on October 14, 2025, at the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. The event gathered leaders and innovators from various sectors to celebrate achievements in business, technology, sustainability, healthcare, and education.

Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana presided over the ceremony, which highlighted leaders whose work demonstrates innovation, social impact, and industry transformation. Organized by The Leaders Online, together with My Events International and Maximage Group, this year marked the first time the awards were held in Thailand, showcasing Bangkok as a centre for international collaboration.

TAT was recognised for its leadership in steering Thailand’s tourism transformation through innovation, sustainability, and community engagement. The award cited TAT’s work in digital transformation, sustainable destination development, and community-based tourism, which balances economic growth with cultural and environmental considerations.

Representing TAT, Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, received the award from Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana. During the ceremony, she highlighted Thailand’s position as a hub for business, investment, and tourism, supported by infrastructure, connectivity, and policies promoting sustainable growth.

Ms. Thapanee outlined the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) approach to sustainable tourism, emphasizing the concept of “Saneh Thai,” or Thai charm. She introduced the “5 Must Do’s” for travellers:

1. Taste local cuisine

2. Experience wellness and Muay Thai

3. Purchase crafts that reflect community pride

4. Discover hidden gems and engage in meaningful encounters

5. Enjoy Thai festivals and immerse yourself in the culture

Additionally, she discussed the “Healing is the New Luxury” campaign, which positions Thailand as a destination for balanced and meaningful travel experiences. This initiative is supported by the Amazing Thailand Sustainable Tourism Goals (STG) standard.

The ceremony honoured 25 organisations and individuals from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Other recipients included Mr. Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, Philanthropist of the Year; Dato’ Dr. Shamshudeen Yunus, Lifetime Achievement Award; and Sir Iqbal Sacranie OBE, Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award reinforces TAT’s commitment to promoting innovation in Thai tourism and highlights Thailand’s approach to achieving sustainable growth through economic, social, and environmental balance.
