Sri Lanka Tourism Welcomes Air Astana’s Inaugural Winter Season Flight from Kazakhstan
Sri Lanka Tourism marked a new development with the arrival of a flight from Kazakhstan on December 25, operated by Air Astana, the national carrier of Kazakhstan, in collaboration with LSR as the ground handler.
This inaugural flight for the 2025–26 winter season carried 166 passengers on board an Airbus A321. Air Astana will operate two weekly services on Mondays and Thursdays between Almaty and Bandaranaike International Airport until March 2026.
The arrival was marked with a traditional water salute. Passengers and crew were welcomed with customary Sri Lankan hospitality, including a cultural dance performance highlighting the country’s traditions. Souvenirs were presented to commemorate the occasion.
Sri Lanka Tourism reiterated that the island offers year-round travel experiences, with a range of attractions within easy reach. This diversity and connectivity continue to appeal to international visitors.
Kazakhstan, in Eastern Europe, is emerging as a source market for Sri Lanka. Services such as these are expected to support broader destination awareness across the region.

From January 1 to December 25, 2025, Sri Lanka recorded 2,298,987 tourist arrivals, reflecting the continued recovery of the tourism sector and its contribution to the national economy.
