SpiceJet Plans Fleet Expansion with MoU for 10 Aircraft

Airline Targets Higher Capacity and Network Growth

SpiceJet Rolls Out Paperless Boarding at Shillong

SpiceJet has received a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to induct 10 aircraft, as part of its ongoing efforts to expand capacity and rebuild its network.

The development follows the airline’s Board’s approval of a phased increase in its fleet size to around 60 aircraft. The expansion will be supported through a mix of wet and damp leases, along with the gradual return of grounded aircraft to service.

In recent months, SpiceJet has increased its operational capacity. During the last quarter, the airline doubled its Available Seat Kilometres (ASKMs) from approximately 55 crore to 105 crore, indicating a broader network and higher flight activity.

The airline plans to continue this expansion throughout the year, aiming to reach around 220 crore ASKMs by Winter 2026. It also expects to operate more than 300 daily flights across its network as capacity increases.

The planned growth is aimed at improving connectivity, maintaining operational consistency, and meeting passenger demand, while following a structured approach to expansion.

Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, SpiceJet, said that the increase in capacity over the last quarter marks an important step in the airline’s recovery. He added that the MoU supports the airline’s plans to expand operations steadily, with continued focus on network restoration, connectivity, and reliability.

SpiceJet will continue to focus on a balanced growth strategy, combining fleet restoration with planned capacity additions, as it works towards strengthening its operations over the long term.
