SpiceJet Challenges No Pension Fund Payments Accusations

SpiceJet has rejected accusations that it did not make provident fund contributions for its employees for more than two and a half years, claiming that it does so regularly.

“Reports that provident fund contributions beyond January 2022 have not been deposited are incorrect,” a SpiceJet spokeswoman stated in reaction to the CNBCTV18 report. “A considerable portion of payments beyond that period have been made. As previously noted, there has been a lag in some deposits. Clearing these obligations remains our primary goal.”

SpiceJet experienced delays in the payment of provident fund contributions. According to a CNBCTV18 story, an Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) official stated that the airline has not made any payments to the Indian government-run EFPO, which manages savings and retirement plans to which employees and employers contribute. The employer deducts the employee’s contribution before paying any remuneration and remits it to the appropriate fund, together with the employer’s contribution.
