South Korea Extends Visa Fee Waiver for Six Countries Until June 2026
South Korea has announced the extension of its visa processing fee waiver for tourists from six countries—China, India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Cambodia—now valid until June 2026. The measure was earlier scheduled to end in December 2025.

The decision was announced by Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol, who said the extension is intended to support growth in inbound tourism and sustain momentum in the travel sector’s recovery. The waiver is expected to encourage higher visitor numbers and tourism-related spending.
Supporting inbound tourism recovery

The visa fee exemption aims to reduce travel costs and simplify entry procedures for visitors from key Asian markets. By extending the policy, South Korea is seeking to maintain accessibility for travellers from China, India, and Southeast Asia, markets that contribute significantly to inbound tourism.
Authorities noted that extending the waiver will help keep South Korea competitive as regional travel demand increases, while supporting tourism infrastructure and local businesses that depend on international visitors.
Expected impact on travel demand

The policy addresses visa processing costs, which can hinder travel. By eliminating this expense, South Korea is encouraging short-term visits and repeat travel from nearby, high-volume source markets. The move aligns with broader regional trends as Asian destinations adjust entry policies to attract international travellers.
Tourism spending linked to increased arrivals is expected to support sectors such as accommodation, transport, retail, and entertainment. Officials also highlighted tourism’s role in job creation and regional economic activity.
Part of a broader tourism strategy

The extension of the visa fee waiver forms part of South Korea’s longer-term tourism strategy, which includes improving air connectivity, promoting regional destinations, and encouraging more balanced distribution of visitors beyond major urban centres.
Looking ahead, tourism authorities plan to continue focusing on sustainable growth, cultural tourism, and streamlined travel processes. The visa fee waiver is expected to remain a supporting tool as South Korea works to strengthen its position in the regional and international travel market through 2026.
