Sanya to Host 2025 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event with PATA Support
The 2025 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event, themed “Coastal Tourism: Symbiosis and Development of Nature and Culture,” will take place in Sanya, Hainan, from November 18 to 20, 2025. The event will bring together tourism professionals, representatives of international organisations, and delegates from Chinese cities to explore the future of coastal destinations through an experiential exchange model. It is organized by the Sanya Tourism Board and supported by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).
Designed as an open and collaborative platform for global exchange, the event shifts away from traditional conference formats by encouraging immersive participation through the involvement of global experience ambassadors. Delegates will join curated experience routes aligned with their professional interests, visiting key locations such as Wuzhizhou Island Ecological Conservation Area, Yalong Bay Golf Club, Binglanggu Li and Miao Cultural Heritage Park, Sanya International Friendship Sanatorium of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the duty-free complex. These visits will highlight Sanya’s efforts in ecological conservation, tourism service development, and ongoing work in cultural preservation and integration.
Each route will include interactive sharing sessions and experience exchange salons, featuring experts in sustainable tourism, cultural and tourism officials from coastal cities, and representatives from local enterprises. Discussions will focus on themes including “Ecological Restoration and Sustainable Tourism,” “Innovations in High-End Tourism Experience,” and “Modern Fusion of Indigenous Cultures.” Through case discussions and collective dialogue, the delegates will explore practical strategies for coastal tourism development and contribute insights based on international and local experience.
“PATA is pleased to partner with the Sanya Tourism Board on this thematic B2B initiative that encourages cooperation, sustainability, and innovation,” said PATA CEO Noor Ahmad Hamid. “By connecting global experience ambassadors and supporting dialogue among coastal destinations, this event reflects a shared intent to build responsible and resilient approaches to coastal tourism.”

The event has attracted interest from over 200 expected delegates from 27 countries and regions. International participants include tourism officials from over 37 tourist cities and key source markets, as well as leaders from cultural and tourism enterprises, and academic experts. Chinese representatives will include officials from cities such as Beijing, Xiamen, Dalian, and Chongqing, along with representatives from international organisations’ China offices and local Sanya enterprises.
As a key platform for cultural and tourism exchange within the Hainan Free Trade Port, the event will highlight Sanya’s progress in ecological management, leisure tourism, and artistic development. It will also support knowledge sharing between Chinese coastal cities and the global tourism community. Through site visits and thematic discussions, the event aims to foster collaboration, strengthen cross-border engagement, and support coordinated ecological, cultural, and economic development among tropical coastal destinations.
