Park Hyatt Tokyo Reopens After 19-Month Restoration

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced the reopening of Park Hyatt Tokyo following a 19-month restoration, marking the most extensive renewal in the property’s 30-year history. The project reflects the legacy of Asia’s first Park Hyatt hotel while introducing updates aligned with today’s traveller expectations.

Honouring the Past and Looking Ahead

The Park Hyatt Tokyo team led the restoration in collaboration with Paris-based design studio Jouin Manku. Their approach focused on retaining the hotel’s identity while refining select elements of its design and experience.

Since its opening in 1994 atop Kenzo Tange’s Shinjuku Park Tower, Park Hyatt Tokyo has been recognized for its glass atriums, residential-style interiors by John Morford, and panoramic city and mountain views. The hotel’s presence in popular culture and its architectural character have contributed to its long-standing recognition.

Design Direction

Patrick Jouin, Co-founding Principal of Studio Jouin Manku, described the design process as a balance between preserving the property’s roots and introducing thoughtful updates. Sanjit Manku noted that the objective was to maintain the hotel’s quiet, reflective atmosphere while allowing its warmth and character to evolve.

Studio Jouin Manku’s work emphasizes the emotional connection between guests and their surroundings, blending architecture, interiors, and crafted objects. Their plan for Park Hyatt Tokyo centered on enhancing comfort, softening forms, and improving sightlines to the city.

A Legacy at New Heights

General Manager Fredrik Harfors shared that the reopening marks a meaningful moment for the team and long-time guests. The refreshed spaces include updates to dining, wellness, and social areas, reinforcing the hotel’s identity while introducing new design features.

Park Hyatt Tokyo occupies the upper floors of Shinjuku Park Tower (39–52) and remains a noted part of Tokyo’s skyline. Designed by the late Pritzker Prize laureate Kenzo Tange, the building helped shape the city’s approach to mixed-use high-rises. Inside, John Morford’s original vision continues to guide the understated aesthetic.

Guestrooms & Suites

The 171 redesigned rooms feature fluid layouts, tactile materials, and integrated wet-room bathrooms. Contemporary Japanese art is highlighted throughout the accommodations, including works by Yoshitaka Echizenya and newly commissioned lithographs.

Key suites—such as the Park Suite, Diplomat Suite, Governor’s Suite, and Presidential Suite—have been reinterpreted or restored, each with updated materials, custom furniture, and expanded views. The Tokyo Suite returns to its original design.

Girandole by Alain Ducasse

As part of the reopening, the hotel introduces Girandole by Alain Ducasse, developed in partnership with Ducasse Paris Group. The restaurant blends elements of the French brasserie with Japanese produce and craftsmanship. The space features new interiors by Studio Jouin Manku and a rotating floral installation by UI Florist Workshop. The menu includes items such as an upside-down cheese soufflé, Wagyu beef tenderloin, and a sealed cocotte of lobster with truffle macaroni.

The Peak Lounge & Bar

Located beneath a glass atrium and surrounded by a bamboo grove, The Peak Lounge & Bar retains its balance of openness and calm. A new cocktail program, titled “Six Prefectures, One Skyline,” highlights regional Japanese ingredients and storytelling, extending to both spirited and zero-proof options.

New York Grill & Bar

Situated on the 52nd floor, New York Grill & Bar continues its signature black-and-chrome design with restored interiors. The menu, led by Chef de Cuisine Ben Wheeler, emphasizes premium cuts and simple preparations, accompanied by new cocktail additions and long-standing favourites.

Kozue

Kozue maintains its focus on modern Japanese cuisine inspired by traditional kaiseki. Led by Chef de Cuisine Nobuhiro Yoshida, the menu reflects seasonal produce and regional craftsmanship, supported by ceramics and tableware sourced from Japanese artisans.

Delicatessen & Pastry Boutique

The Delicatessen, located on the first floor of Shinjuku Park Tower, will reopen in March 2026 with casual dining and takeaway items. The Pastry Boutique, located on the second floor, continues to offer cakes, pastries, and chocolates crafted by Executive Pastry Chef Julien Perrinet.

Club On The Park

Spanning the 45th and 47th floors, Club On The Park provides fitness and wellness facilities, including a pool beneath a glass atrium, updated Technogym equipment, and daily classes. The spa features marble whirlpools, saunas, cold plunges, and private treatment rooms. Signature therapies draw on seasonal ingredients and techniques that blend Japanese and Western approaches.
