Park Hyatt Johannesburg Named Among TIME’s ‘World’s Greatest Places’ 2026
Park Hyatt Johannesburg has earned a coveted spot on TIME Magazine’s 2026 list of the “World’s Greatest Places,” less than a year after its debut in July 2025.
The recognition places the hotel among 100 exceptional destinations worldwide, highlighting its distinctive blend of heritage, design and luxury hospitality.

Located in the Rosebank neighbourhood of Johannesburg, the 31-key property is set within a meticulously restored 1930s colonial mansion. The hotel seamlessly combines historic architectural elements—originally influenced by Sir Herbert Baker—with contemporary interiors by renowned designer Stephen Falcke.

Praised by TIME for its intimate, boutique character, the hotel stands out in a city known for larger-scale properties. Its signature dining venue, Room 32, has gained attention for its refined afternoon tea and inventive fine dining experience, appealing to both locals and international guests.
Global recognition for Hyatt’s luxury portfolio
The accolade also reflects the strength of Hyatt Hotels Corporation’s luxury offerings. Notably, Grand Hyatt Deer Valley was also featured on TIME’s 2026 list, reinforcing Hyatt’s reputation for delivering distinctive, high-quality hospitality experiences across diverse destinations.
Continued expansion of the Park Hyatt brand
The recognition comes at a time of strategic expansion for the Park Hyatt brand. Recent and upcoming developments include:
- The opening of Park Hyatt Cabo Del Sol on Mexico’s Baja California Sur coastline
- The reopening of Park Hyatt Tokyo following a major renovation
- Upcoming debuts such as Park Hyatt Mexico City, Park Hyatt Riviera Maya, and Park Hyatt Phu Quoc

These additions will bring the global Park Hyatt portfolio to 52 hotels and resorts, each designed to reflect a strong sense of place and personalised luxury.
A milestone for South African luxury hospitality
The inclusion of Park Hyatt Johannesburg on TIME’s prestigious list underscores its rapid rise as a benchmark for boutique luxury in South Africa. With its thoughtful design, cultural authenticity and curated guest experiences, the property represents a new chapter in high-end hospitality in the region.

Tamara Lohan, Global Brand Leader – Luxury, Hyatt, said, “Since opening, Park Hyatt Johannesburg has quickly established itself as something truly exceptional and a powerful expression of the Park Hyatt brand, so it’s a thrill to see the hotel recognized by TIME. Being named among the ‘World’s Greatest Places’ is a tribute to the extraordinary commitment of the team, who continue to craft the most memorable, elevated and personalized experiences in hospitality today.”
