Noida International Airport Welcomes First Scheduled Flight
Noida International Airport Opens a New Gateway for Delhi NCR
Noida International Airport has officially commenced commercial operations, marking a significant milestone for aviation infrastructure in northern India.
The airport welcomed its first scheduled flight on its opening day, with an IndiGo Airbus A320 arriving from Lucknow shortly before 8:00 a.m. local time. The aircraft later departed for Bengaluru, marking the beginning of regular passenger services from the airport.
Developed by Zurich Airport Limited, Noida International Airport is expected to expand air connectivity across the National Capital Region while supporting growing demand for passenger and cargo traffic.
During the initial phase of operations, the airport will offer connections to 17 destinations. Additional airlines, including Akasa Air, are expected to introduce services as operations gradually expand over the coming months.
The launch of the airport adds capacity to one of India’s busiest aviation markets and provides travellers with another option for domestic and international connectivity.

Daniel Bircher, Chief International Officer of Zurich Airport Limited, said the start of commercial operations represents an important step in the company’s long-term involvement in India’s aviation sector.
He noted that the airport was completed in approximately four years despite challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and wider global disruptions.
Zurich Airport’s Second Greenfield Airport Project in India
Noida International Airport is Zurich Airport Limited’s second airport development project in India, following its involvement in Bengaluru Airport.
After developing and operating Bengaluru Airport, Zurich Airport Limited exited the project in 2017. In 2019, the company secured the concession to build and operate Noida International Airport as the sole shareholder through its subsidiary.
Expansion Planned in Multiple Phases
In its first phase, Noida International Airport has an annual passenger handling capacity of 12 million passengers. The airport currently operates with one runway, a passenger terminal and 25 aircraft stands.
The airport’s long-term development plan is divided into four phases over a 40-year concession period. Once fully developed, the airport is expected to handle up to 70 million passengers annually and operate two runways.
The concession commenced in 2021, with Phase 1 representing an investment of approximately CHF 750 million.
About the Operator
Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) was established to develop, construct and operate Noida International Airport under a public-private partnership framework.
The company works in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and Noida International Airport Limited, the state concession authority. The management team comprises both Indian and Swiss executives.
YIAPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, which, in turn, is a subsidiary of Zurich Airport Limited, and manages airport investments and operations across India, Latin America and the Caribbean.
