Maldivian Expands Fleet with Two New DHC-6-300-G Aircraft

Maldivian, the national carrier operated by Island Aviation Services, has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with De Havilland Aircraft of Canada for the acquisition of two DHC-6-300-G Twin Otter aircraft.

The announcement was made during the Farnborough Airshow 2026. Delivery timelines and aircraft configurations have not yet been disclosed.

The new aircraft will be the first DHC-6-300-G variants to be delivered to the Maldives. The Twin Otter has been widely used across the country for decades, supporting air connectivity between Malé, resort islands and remote communities.

Commenting on the agreement, Ibrahim Iyas, Managing Director of Island Aviation Services, said the Twin Otter has played an important role in the Maldives’ aviation network and that the latest-generation aircraft will support the airline’s operations with updated technology and operational improvements.

Maldivian currently operates a fleet of 11 DHC-6-300 Twin Otters, providing scheduled services between Malé, island resorts and remote destinations across the archipelago.

The airline’s wider fleet also includes one Airbus A320-200, one Airbus A330-200, three ATR 42-600s, two ATR 72-600s, one De Havilland DHC-8-200, one DHC-8-Q200, and five DHC-8-Q300 aircraft.

The proposed addition of the two DHC-6-300-G aircraft is expected to support Maldivian’s domestic network and strengthen connectivity across the Maldives.
