Etihad Airways Expands African Network with Three Partnerships

Etihad Airways has signed three partnership agreements with African airlines during July, strengthening its network across the continent ahead of the launch of its new African routes.

The agreements include an interline partnership with Fastjet Zimbabwe, an interline agreement with Air Peace in Nigeria, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Africa World Airlines in Ghana.

The partnership with Air Peace, signed in Lagos on 22 July, gives Etihad passengers access to 20 destinations across Nigeria, West Africa and Central Africa through the Nigerian carrier’s network.

In Accra, Etihad signed an MoU with Africa World Airlines on 24 July. The agreement covers planned cooperation in codeshare services, interline travel, cargo operations and loyalty programmes.

Earlier in the month, Etihad also signed an interline agreement with Fastjet Zimbabwe, expanding its network across Southern Africa ahead of the airline’s planned Harare service.

The latest agreements complement Etihad’s existing joint venture with Ethiopian Airlines, enabling passengers to connect to more destinations across Africa beyond the airline’s own network.

The partnerships follow Etihad’s announcement in April of six new African destinations, supporting its strategy to expand connectivity between Abu Dhabi, Africa, India and Asia for both passenger and cargo services.

Arik De, Chief Commercial and Revenue Officer at Etihad Airways, said the agreements strengthen the airline’s presence across Southern, West and Central Africa while supporting the launch of its new African routes.

Tickets combining Etihad and partner airline networks will become available as each agreement comes into effect.
