Lufthansa Expands Airbus A350 Fleet With Order for 10 More Aircraft

Airbus A350 Order Strengthens Lufthansa Fleet Expansion Plans

Lufthansa Group has placed a firm order for 10 additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft, expanding its existing A350 fleet and supporting the airline group’s ongoing fleet modernisation plans.

With the latest agreement, Lufthansa Group’s total order for the Airbus A350 Family now stands at 75 aircraft, including 15 A350-1000s. The group already operates 43 A350 aircraft, with additional deliveries scheduled in the coming years.

Airbus said the order reflects Lufthansa’s continued focus on fuel-efficient long-haul aircraft and operational efficiency.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry

Benoit de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President Sales of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, said the long-standing partnership between Airbus and Lufthansa has continued to grow over the past five decades.

Lufthansa has been operating Airbus aircraft since the delivery of its first A300 in 1976. Since then, the airline group has operated several Airbus aircraft types, including the A220, A320 Family, A330, A340, A350 and A380.

The Airbus A350 is designed for long-haul operations and can fly up to 18,000 kilometres non-stop. The aircraft incorporates advanced aerodynamics, lightweight materials, and Rolls-Royce engines to reduce fuel consumption, operating costs, and carbon emissions compared with earlier-generation aircraft.

The aircraft cabin also includes Airbus’ Airspace design, featuring updated onboard products and cabin features intended to improve passenger comfort on long-haul routes.

Airbus stated that the A350 is currently capable of operating with up to 50 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with plans to make all Airbus aircraft compatible with 100 per cent SAF by 2030.

As of April 2026, the A350 Family had recorded more than 1,550 firm orders from over 65 customers worldwide, according to Airbus.
