Lufthansa Marks 100 Years with Historic Parable Design Aircraft
In celebration of its 100th anniversary, Lufthansa has introduced a new, specially painted aircraft to its fleet. The Airbus A321-200, painted in Norwich, England, showcases a historic parable design inspired by the Lockheed Super Star. It performed a positioning flight to Frankfurt under flight number LH9898 and is registered as D-AISZ.
The Airbus A321 showcases Lufthansa’s historic parable design, first introduced in the mid-1950s. Influenced by streamlined design trends of the 1930s, the parable line was intended to convey motion and a forward-looking approach. At the time, the design extended beyond aircraft liveries and appeared on baggage tags, business documents, flight schedules, and promotional materials.

The return of the parable design comes nearly 70 years after the Lockheed Super Star entered service with Lufthansa. Introduced to the fleet in 1957, the aircraft was notable for offering the Senator Class, Lufthansa’s most premium cabin at the time, and for operating nonstop transatlantic services to New York.
A restored Lockheed L-1649A Super Star is set to be displayed alongside a Junkers Ju 52 at the new Lufthansa Group Hangar One. The conference and visitor centre at Frankfurt Airport is scheduled to open in April.
Anniversary Fleet Continues to Expand

Lufthansa’s centennial fleet has also grown with the addition of a blue Airbus A350-900, registered as D-AIXL, which entered service after being painted in Châteauroux, France. The aircraft joins a Boeing 787-9 and an Airbus A320neo already operating in the anniversary livery from Frankfurt.

Further aircraft, including an Airbus A380, a Boeing 747-8, and an Airbus A350-1000, are planned to be introduced in the centenary design as the anniversary programme continues.
