InterContinental Opens The Red Sea Resort on Shura Island
InterContinental has announced the opening of InterContinental The Red Sea Resort, introducing the brand to Shura Island as part of the broader development of The Red Sea destination in line with Saudi Vision 2030. The resort expands IHG Hotels & Resorts’ Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in the region.
The 210-room property is located among coastal waters, coral reefs and protected marine environments. Its architecture draws from coral-inspired forms and incorporates cultural elements to create a setting focused on relaxation and connection to the natural surroundings.
Francesco Pantalone, General Manager, said: “The opening of InterContinental The Red Sea Resort marks a new moment for guests to experience the Red Sea’s landscape. Through design, personalised experiences and an emphasis on exploration, the resort aims to offer meaningful stays.”
Design and Sustainability

The resort has achieved LEED BD+C Platinum certification. Designed by Foster + Partners with interiors by Kristina Zanic Consultants, the property features curved structures, natural textures and artworks that reflect the island’s environment. The design approach supports the project’s sustainability objectives.
Guestrooms and Amenities

Guestrooms and suites, from King and Twin Rooms to a three-bedroom suite, are designed to encourage rest and focus. The interiors were developed in collaboration with neuroscience-based designer Isabelle Sjövall, incorporating tones, materials and lighting that influence wellbeing and connect guests to natural elements.
Guests also have access to Timeshifter, a jet lag support app offered through InterContinental’s global partnership, which provides personalised plans to help reduce the effects of time zone changes.

Club InterContinental offers private check-in and additional services. Younger guests can engage in marine-themed activities at Planet Trekkers, which includes a climbing wall, outdoor play areas and a splash park.
The SPA InterContinental provides open-air wellbeing areas, hydrotherapy, massages, yoga sessions and other treatments focused on physical and mental renewal.
Experiences and Cultural Connections

InterContinental positions its team as cultural connectors. At The Red Sea Resort, the Concierge supports guests with tailored activities, including sailing, cycling routes, and diving among coral reefs.
Dining

The resort’s dining program blends global cuisines with local influences. Menus feature seasonal and regional ingredients across three signature restaurants:
Darein – Levantine and Moroccan influences
Ardo – South American dishes and shared plates
Chimes – Mediterranean-inspired tapas
The pastry program, led by Chef Raamin, features Murrma, a dessert venue inspired by the surrounding mangroves. Offerings reinterpret regional flavours and classic pastries through modern techniques.

Two additional venues—Ardo (expansion) and The 305, a Miami-inspired restaurant and lounge—are planned to open in early 2026.
Portfolio Expansion

InterContinental The Red Sea Resort joins over 235 InterContinental hotels worldwide and adds to IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle presence in Saudi Arabia’s western region. It complements existing properties such as Six Senses Southern Dunes and InterContinental Jeddah, with Regent Jeddah and Six Senses Amaala set to join in the coming years.
