Under the agreement, Akasa Air and BPCL will establish a framework for the supply and offtake of SAF-blended Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) at selected airports across India.

The collaboration will also focus on:

  • Sharing indicative SAF demand forecasts.
  • Supporting production planning.
  • Enabling phased increases in SAF blending as supply expands.

Executive Comments

Ankur Goel, Chief Financial Officer, Akasa Air, said:

“Sustainability has been an important part of our approach since the airline began operations. This partnership with BPCL strengthens our readiness for Sustainable Aviation Fuel while supporting the development of the supply ecosystem in India.”

Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing), BPCL, said:

“BPCL remains committed to supporting the aviation sector through reliable fuel supply, operational efficiency and innovation. As India moves towards a lower-carbon future, we will continue working on energy solutions that support the aviation industry’s decarbonisation efforts.”

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF): India's Biofuel Opportunity

The agreement builds on Akasa Air’s ongoing initiatives to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

The airline operates a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft equipped with CFM LEAP-1B engines, which are designed to improve fuel efficiency compared with previous-generation aircraft. Akasa Air also uses SkyBreathe, a fuel management platform that helps monitor fuel consumption and operational performance.

The partnership with BPCL represents another step towards expanding the availability and use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel in India as the country’s aviation sector works towards lower-carbon operations.
