The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department has been awarded the title of ‘Best Tourism State of the Year’ at the Travel and Tourism Conclave and Awards held in New Delhi. This recognition reflects the state's outstanding efforts and accomplishments in the tourism sector. The department has actively promoted Madhya Pradesh's unique natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and world-class tourist destinations. It has also focused on improving infrastructure and connectivity at tourist sites while creating new employment opportunities for the local community. As a result, Madhya Pradesh has become a preferred destination for domestic and international travellers. Madhya Pradesh is the second-largest state in India by area and the fifth-largest population, boasting over 72 million residents. The state's central location makes it a popular destination for tourism. Although the state of Madhya Pradesh was established in 1956, its cultural heritage is ancient and diverse. The region is home to numerous monuments, carved temples, stupas, forts, and palaces perched on hilltops, all of which evoke visions of empires and kingdoms. It has a history of warriors, builders, poets, musicians, saints, and philosophers, encompassing the traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Notably, the Sanskrit poet-dramatist Kalidasa and the musician of the Mughal court, Tansen, hailed from Madhya Pradesh, earning recognition worldwide.
