New route connects eastern India with China’s commercial hub

IndiGo has introduced daily non-stop flights between Kolkata and Shanghai, strengthening air connectivity between India and China. The service commenced on 29 March 2026 and is operated using Airbus A320neo aircraft.

The new route provides a direct link between Kolkata and Shanghai, while also enabling passengers from cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jaipur and Bhubaneswar to connect to Shanghai via Kolkata.

Expansion supports trade, travel and regional connectivity

Vinay Malhotra

Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, said the launch supports growing travel demand between India and China. He noted that, in addition to existing services to Guangzhou, the airline now operates 21 weekly flights to mainland China.

Shanghai serves as an important centre for business and trade, and the new route is expected to facilitate both commercial and leisure travel, as well as cultural exchange between the two countries.

Delay

Passengers can book tickets through IndiGo’s official website, mobile app, and authorised travel partners. Additional services, such as pre-booked meals, preferred seating, and flexible booking options, are also available.

The launch follows IndiGo’s recent network developments in China, including the reinstatement of Kolkata–Guangzhou services and expanded operations from Delhi, reflecting continued demand for travel between the two markets.
